If there was a more perfect and touching moment than Meryl Streep adjusting Ryan Gosling’s bow tie at the 2017 SAG Awards last night we’ve yet to see it.

The La La Land actor was greeted with a kiss on the cheek by Streep inside the annual ceremony, before the Oscar-winning actress kindly fixed the star’s slightly crooked tie.

Gosling - who was looking very dapper in a black tuxedo - was nominated for the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role award, but eventually lost of to Fences star Denzel Washington.

His La La Land co-star Emma Stone beat Streep to win Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor, and she duly dedicated the award to director Damien Chazelle and Gosling, who she called 'the best.'

'That’s just the truth, no one can argue it,' she added, as Gosling laughed awkwardly and covered his face with his hand.

Stone also thanked fellow nominees 'Meryl, Amy [Adams], Natalie [Portman], Emily [Blunt] you all inspire me beyond… I mean you’re just the greatest. And your intelligence and talent are mind-blowing.'

Other winners of the night included Moonlight’s Mahershala Ali for Supporting Male Actor, and Fences’ Viola Davis for Supporting Female Actor, while Netflix series Stranger Things was honored with Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.
