We’re big fans of silky soft bedding here at Good Housekeeping – who isn’t? But when you’re shopping through a screen, it’s hard to know if what you’re buying will live up to your luxurious, five-star expectations.

That's why we're fans of bamboo bedding. The fast-growing plant transforms into a seriously buttery textile similar to a viscose or rayon. Plus, it’s antibacterial, odour-resistant, naturally hypoallergenic, moisture-wicking and breathable.

Panda London is one of our favourite places to shop for bamboo bedding – the brand uses organic bamboo, and provides a lot of detail on its eco credentials, so you can rest easy at night, in more ways than one.

Crucially, its products are seriously snuggly. Many have passed through the doors of the Good Housekeeping Institute, leaving our panel extremely well rested.

Okay, this isn't a bedroom bargain, but Panda's towels are so soft, they're the stuff of dreams. Our panellists couldn't get enough of them and would happily recommend them to others.

They scored top marks for absorbency and for how well they washed, maintaining their shape nicely. They're thick, buttery soft against the skin, and thoughtfully designed with a neat little loop to make hanging them easy. Happy shower time!

Score: 92/100

This 10.5-tog duvet should keep you cosy for most of the year. It’s hypoallergenic, machine washable, and oh-so-fluffy thanks to the bamboo and microfibre filling, and bamboo cover.

It went down a storm with our panellists, with everyone saying they'd purchase the duvet again and recommend it to others. They thought it was a delight to sleep under, praising the high-thread-count finish and silky-soft feel. It washed and dried well, too.

If you run hot at night, it's worth opting for the lighter 4.5 tog duvet, or if you're especially chilly in the winter, you can attach both together for ultimate warmth.

Sheets are where the benefits of bamboo are perhaps most obvious, because you feel the silkiness of the fabric against your skin every time you get into bed.

We received lots of positive feedback from our panel on these ones –they loved how breathable the bedding was. They said it regulated their temperature well and even helped to prevent hot flushes. It was soft to touch and easy to clean, with no post-washing colour fading or shrinkage reported.

Even better, these sheets come in five shades, and you can buy everything individually or as a set.

Hybrid Bamboo Mattress

Score: 81/100

This hybrid mattress features six different layers, including pocket springs and, of course, breathable bamboo. It’s medium firm and designed to absorb motion as you turn, so a fidgeting partner won’t keep you awake.

Testers praised the luxuriously soft outer cover and scored the mattress highly for breathability, too. They agreed it was comfortable and it provided sufficient support for most.

There are no nasties in the mattress either; Panda only uses CertiPUR foam and the product is OEKO-TEX certified, which is an independent guarantee that it’s free from harmful substances. One for sweet, green dreams.

Our testing team found it cosy and supportive to sleep on. It proved particularly popular with the front sleepers on our panel, who appreciated its thinness.

How we test sleep products

This is an image

To find the best sleep products across all categories, our experts put them through rigorous testing both in the lab and in real-world conditions with the help of our at-home panellists.

At the Good Housekeeping Institute, our in-house team assess the overall quality and design of each product, putting them through multiple wash tests to check for shrinkage, colour fading and changes in quality.

Where relevant, we also send out products to our team of at-home testers, who trial them for anywhere between two and eight weeks to see how they perform. Then, they feed back on their experiences, commenting on design, comfort, breathability, ease of use and performance.

Our experts collate all the feedback and award each product an overall score.
