The best mini fridge for keeping your drinks and snacks cool
These compact chillers are perfect for bedrooms, home offices and uni halls

A mini fridge offers a little slice of luxury. These small, space-saving appliances help keep food and drinks cold, fresh and (most importantly) within arm's reach.
And having quick access to a cold drink or snack when you’re working from home or relaxing in your room can be a game-changer.
They can also be a savvy investment if you live in a flat, house share or are in halls at university. The best mini fridges take up minimal space and save you making countless trips to the kitchen when in need of a chilled drink – in other words, they can be a lifesaver when you wake up with a hangover.
From keeping you hydrated to being your helping hand when you’re entertaining, we’ve rounded up a selection of the best mini fridges for every occasion. Shop the coolest models below, but keep scrolling for everything you need to know before buying.
If you’re replacing an existing mini fridge, there are plenty of places for you to safely recycle your old one. Find your nearest electrical recycling point, or read our guide on how to donate or dispose of your appliances and tech for extra guidance.
How much electricity does a mini fridge use?
Good news: a mini fridge won’t cost as much as your normal refrigerator, and they’re generally designed to be energy efficient. The ones in this list have energy ratings from G to E and will typically cost between £17.40 and £40 a year if left on permanently.
Note, these prices are based on the current energy price cap of 22 pence per kilowatt hour as well as the energy readings provided by the retailers, so they could vary.
For easy comparison, an average fridge freezer with a D energy rating would use 34 kilowatts an hour and cost you £90 per year when left running 24/7.
Of course, you can’t rely on a mini fridge to house your weekly food shop, so we don’t recommend switching one out for the other, but adding a compact cooler to your home won’t make a massive difference to your monthly energy bills.
If you’re concerned, we’ve included some with lower energy ratings on our list, as well as portable and rechargeable options, which are handy if you aren’t planning on using your mini fridge every day.
What to look for when buying a mini fridge
On top of their energy usage, there are a few things you need to consider before buying your mini fridge.
Type
There are two different styles of mini fridge in this list: tabletop or countertop mini fridges, and portable models.
Tabletop models are the more traditional type of mini fridge. Their capacities can range from four litres (although we think these are better used as skincare fridges) up to huge 70 litre models.
Alternatively, if you’re taking your mini fridge camping or to the beach, you’ll want a portable design with a smaller capacity. Both the Ninja FrostVault 28L Hard Cooler and Anker EverFrost Powered Cooler on our list are made for keeping drinks cool on the go.
Size and capacity
Choosing the right size for your home will depend on what you want to use it for – for simply chilling your afternoon can of Diet Coke, a smaller 17L model like the Russell Hobbs Quiet Mini Cooler will do the trick.
If you want an overflow fridge, or one for storing enough food and drinks for entertaining, a 40 to 46 litre capacity model will suit better. Most of the options in this list are around that size as these offer the best value for your money – there’s plenty of room for storing what you need without it taking up a lot of space in your room.
Storage and features
Most mini fridges include a shelf to divide the space, as well as extra shelving or compartments in the door. You can also find some with an ice box – perfect for keeping frozen treats chilled in the summer.
Price
As always, it’s important to shop within your budget. Have a think about what you’ll be using your fridge for as well as how big it needs to be. Generally, the larger the capacity, the more it’s likely to cost.
Noise level
If you’re planning on keeping your mini fridge in your bedroom (the prime spot for enjoying the best late-night snacks), you’ll need a model that won’t interrupt your sleep.
While some people are disturbed more easily than others, sounds as low as 30dB can impact how well rested we feel (for reference, a normal human conversation can measure around 60dB). The mini fridges in our list range from 27dB up to 45dB.
