Okay, so we know nobody’s going anywhere at the moment, so wearing a full face of makeup every day probably isn’t necessary. Saying that, carrying on with our usual getting-ready routine has been helping us to feel a little bit more normal through these strange times — even if we skip the full eyes/lips/face combo and just opt for a swipe of mascara and a light base. Also, as it's starting to get really sunny, it’s definitely time to start wearing an SPF (if you aren’t already!).
That’s why we were still pleased to see the GHI’s best lightweight foundation on sale on Amazon. Scoring 86/100, Maybelline’s Dream Urban Cover foundation has an impressively high SPF 50 and gives a dewy, natural finish without looking or feeling heavy. Basically, it’s perfect for hot days where you want to protect your skin while still letting it breathe and, at just over £6, it’s also a bit of a bargain.
On test, the GHI makeup artist gave this foundation top marks for its formula; praising how it blended effortlessly into the skin to leave a fresh, healthy glow. It also fared well with our home testers, who liked how it fully concealed blemishes while still feeling hydrating and lightweight.

Even better, the high SPF means that you won’t have to layer your foundation over an additional suncare product (although extra protection doesn’t ever hurt, of course), so it’s good if you don’t like the feel of too many products on your skin or have especially sensitive skin.
While for most testers, the coverage lasted all day, one tester found it a little greasy — so it might not be the best choice for those with especially oily complexions. A couple more also found the scent initially a little off putting, although it did not linger when applied to the face, so this shouldn’t be too much of a problem — and especially at this great price.
Basically, for those Zoom calls and lunchtime quarantine walks where we want to feel a little bit more pulled-together, we’ll definitely be reaching for this foundation. You can pick up one (in a good range of diverse shades) on Amazon here.
