We are all pretty ecstatic at the news that Olivia Colman is next in line to play Queen Elizabeth II on The Crown when Claire Foy steps down at the end of the upcoming season.

But what does Foy herself think about her replacement on the show? Well, she is pretty 'overjoyed' too.

'I've known for a long time and when I found out that she might be taking over, I was just apoplectic with joy,' the star told the Press Association.

'I just love her, I admire her so much and the idea that we sort of will be doing the same job but not actually working together is just enough, I'm honoured by that.'

However, on whether she had any advice for Colman, Foy added: 'She doesn't need any advice from me, she knows what she's doing. The only thing I would say is take vitamins and get lots of sleep.'

Another star in the series, John Lithgow, also sang Colman's praises, saying that the show had made the right choice in casting her in the role.

'She's an amazing, miraculous actor,' the Winston Churchill actor said. 'Somebody transcendent had to replace Claire and they found her.'

Colman is set to take over the role for seasons three and four of the Netflix show, according to Variety, with another star tipped to take over once again for seasons five and six. However, there's no word yet on who will take over the role of Prince Philip from Matt Smith.

The Crown returns for its second season on Netflix on December 8, while Olivia Colman's first season is expected to drop in 2019.
