You only had to take one look at the tragically graphic image of poor Aylan Kurdi, the three-year-old toddler who died attempting cross the Mediterranean Sea with his family, for the magnitude of the refugee crisis we are currently experiencing to hit you.
Aylan and his brother Galip's parents were making the only choice they had when they decided to flee their terror-striken home country of Syria. They were hoping that an overcrowded boat containing 19 other refugees would be their ticket to a new, happy, and most importantly - safe - life elsewhere.
But, as for thousands of other helpless refugees this year, it wasn't meant to be. The overcrowding on the boat led to it sinking, and caused the unnecessary deaths of yet more innocent people.

The tragedy of this situation is insurmountable, and has evidently affected people worldwide.
We can only hope that the scenes we've witnessed this week are enough to spur us and our politicians into action to do what we can to help show these humans the humanity they deserve.
