Last night’s Tony awards were a big success for British theatre, with Helen Mirren winning her first ever Tony award for her role as Queen Elizabeth II in The Audience.
Her Tony will join her Emmy and Oscar on her ever-growing shelf of awards, and now Helen has her eyes on the Grammys. ‘This is an unbelievable honour. I am so thrilled,' said Helen as she accepted the award for best leading actress. ‘[Now] I have to do an audio book!’ she joked.
Helen’s co-star in the play, Richard McCabe, was also named best featured actor.
