American actress Carrie Fisher has reportedly suffered a heart attack during a flight, according to the BBC.

The actress, who is best known for playing Princess Leia in the Star Wars films, was on a flight from London to LA at the time she went into cardiac arrest.

The LA Times, who were the first to report the sad news, has said that the 60-year-old was rushed to hospital by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics shortly after her flight touched down at LAX airport.

According to NBC, a law enforcement official described Carrie's condition as 'not good.'

Passengers on the same flight as Carrie Fisher tweeted what they saw with one saying: 'Don't know how else to process this but Carrie Fisher stopped breathing on the flight home. Hope she's gonna be OK.'

Social media has been flooded with support for the actress with the likes of William Shatner and Star Wars co-star Peter Mayhew tweeting their thoughts.
