The Apprentice winner Alana Spencer has admitted that she was only stopped from walking out of the show by her fellow candidates Grainne McCoy and Frances Bishop.

Alana, who admitted in the Interviews episode this week that she had considered quitting the process, told Digital Spy that she was 'emotionally drained' just a few tasks in.

And she admitted that it took a while to feel back to normal, saying: 'I think I applied for the show thinking I had a good chance of getting to the final. I have a business that I feel is a strong small business, so I went in feeling positive.'

'Obviously my confidence got a little bit knocked at the beginning, but by final five I was back to myself again.'

But Alana explained that she did come very close to walking out of the show.

'[I considered quitting in] week three before going into the Boardroom for the candy task,' she explained. 'I just knew that if I didn't win, that I was going home, and I was just emotionally drained at that point.'

'I did come close [to quitting]. Luckily, I had Fran and Grainne there to pick me back up – and thank goodness I didn't!'

In fact, Alana made it all the way to the final, where she won a £250,000 investment from Lord Sugar to launch her cake business.

And she admitted that she was desperate to get her saviours Frances and Grainne on her team to help out in the all-important last task.

'I wasn't dreading anyone [returning] as such, but I'd say I definitely had my dream team that I wanted to get,' she said. 'I absolutely wanted Grainne and Frances – they were my top two. And I wasn't sure what the chances of Oliver [Nohl-Oser] coming back were, but I thought if he was there then he would also be good because he works in the food industry.'

Alana confessed that she was 'a little bit' worried about working with some of the former candidates again, given that she was repeatedly ignored throughout the series.

'I think that's why it was so important that I got the right team, because I knew that the people I would choose or that I wanted to choose would be the people who would give me the time and listen to what I want,' she said.
