After the announcement that Joanne Clifton has quit her role as a professional dancer on Strictly, there was much speculation as to why, with her ex-dance partner Ore Oduba revealing she would be focusing on her musical theatre career.

Since then, Joanne has revealed she’ll be throwing herself in to the world of the stage, leading a tour of Flashdance as the character Alex Owens, a welder by day and dancer by night.

Joanne shared a video in character as Alex to announce her exciting career news.

‘I was never the sexy one on Strictly - I was the relatable one,’ she told the BBC.

Joanne, who is currently on tour leading a production of Thoroughly Modern Millie also spoke about her mixed feelings in regards to quitting Strictly.

‘Of course I'm upset to be leaving Strictly,’ she said. ‘But to see people's reaction to Flashdance, all their messages, is really exciting. It's been overwhelming.’

Joanne will star in Flashdance when the tour begins in August.
