Nicole Kidman has shut down talk about the possibility of a Big Little Lies season 2.

The actress, who stars in the show alongside Reese Witherspoon and Shailene Woodley, revealed her thoughts to her Moulin Rouge co-star Ewan McGregor as part of an 'Actors on Actors' series for Variety.

During the pair's conversation, Kidman said there are no current plans for a second run of the HBO series, even though author Liane Moriaty has said she's 'started to think about ways this could continue'.

'It was a book so it was pretty finite,' Kidman said, before adding of herself and her co-stars: 'We got the taste for it, so we're like, "Oh, what a pity." You never know, you always hope, but there's no story, there's absolutely no prospects right now.'

Liane Moriarty, the author of the original novel, spoke more optimistically about the possibility of a new run, saying: 'The producers have asked me to see if I can come up with some ideas. I wouldn't write a new book but perhaps a new story and then we'll see what happens.'

'I'm absolutely open to it because, once I started thinking, it was too much fun to see what I could do and to see these characters again. And there's definitely places you can go.'
