In news that will surprise approximately no-one, The Great British Bake Off completely smashed this year's TV ratings, bagging nine out of ten of the most watched episodes of 2016.

Of course we've always thought Bake Off was one of the nation's favourites, but now it's been definitively confirmed with numbers. And big ones, too.

Taking all but one of the top ten spots for the biggest audience, the number of Bake Offviewers peaked at an impressive 15.9 million, as pretty much all of us tuned in to watch Candice Brown declared this year's winner.

Stopping GBBO from claiming the entirety of the top ten, however, was Planet Earth II, which reached 13.4 million of you.

Topping ITV's numbers and nabbing 13th place in the ratings race was the opening episode of I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!, after it managed to clock up 12.6 million viewers.

Overall, though, the BBC appears to have totally dominated the rankings, thanks to Bake Off, Planet Earth II and frequent ratings winner Strictly Come Dancing.

So, will the Beeb be able to pull off yet more ratings success with its last ever outing of The Great British Bake Off for its Christmas special?

We wouldn't bet against it. Especially now that we've been promised a cheating scandal to rival custard-gate. Who knew baking could be so dramatic?
