There are certain things at Christmas that are a given – Michael Bublé will awaken from his 11-month hibernation, every man's Lynx Africa collection will be replenished, and you might just have something in your eye from watching the John Lewis advert.

Yep, let's face it, now that The X Factor's live shows are on, everyone's thinking about Christmas, wine and John Lewis adverts...

Now, we all know that the annual John Lewis Christmas advert turns the whole country into a sobbing mess, so when can we expect 2016's tear-jerker?

Well, according to Campaign, this year's advert is expected to launch on Thursday, November 10 - a bit of a break from recent tradition, when it has debuted on the first Friday of the month.

Details are fairly thin on the ground so far, but the report also suggests that the promo will be directed by Dougal Wilson, who oversaw three of the company's previous festive commercials.

In years gone by, the ads have featured Monty the Penguin, a cartoon Bear and Hare, and a Snowman looking for hats and gloves for his Snowlady.

The music to 2015's Man on the Moon tugged at our heart-strings with Norwegian newcomer Aurora covering Oasis's 'Half the World Away'. And this year, people are already speculating on whether a David Bowie classic is on the cards...

In other years we've had Ellie Goulding cover Sir Elton John's 'Your Song', Lily Allen has done her take on Keane's 'Somewhere Only We Know' and Tom Odell performed a stripped-back, John Lewis-ified version of 'Real Love' by The Beatles for 2014's Monty the Penguin campaign.
