The Rio Olympics has been full of thrills and spills so far, but surely the most bizarre happening has to be the entire Olympic diving pool turning green.

Yep, that’s right – just days after Britain’s Tom Daley and Dan Goodfellow won bronze in a nail-biting synchronized diving final, the pool that they jumped into has completely changed colour – and no one really knows why.

Those watching yesterday's women’s synchronized diving event noticed that the normally blue five-metre deep pool was gradually turning green as the competition went on, with Tom Daley tweeting ‘Ermm… what happened?!’

Officials at Rio’s Maria Lenk Aquatics Center have so far been unable to explain the pool’s sudden change in colour, although there’s been speculation that it could be due to algae or the chemicals being used in the pool.

‘It’s very important to the Rio 2016 community to ensure a high quality of play,’ read a statement from the organisers. ‘Tests were conducted and the water was found to be safe. We’re investigating what the cause was.’

Luckily none of the divers reported any ill effects as a result of entering the murky pool.

Perhaps it’s a patriotic thing for the green-flagged Brazil?!
