The Sherlock actor has announced the character he’ll be taking on next - and it isn't one you'd expect.

We’ve seen him take on the role of Sherlock Holmes, Hamlet and even Smaug, but now Benedict Cumberbatch’s newest upcoming role has been released – the Grinch.

But before you get excited and picture him decked out in all things green (and hairy) like Jim Carey, the actor will only be voicing the Christmas-loathing character in the new animation film, titled The Grinch.

The announcement was made at CinemaCon by Illumination, the animation studio behind Despicable Me and Minions.

The Grinch’s producer Chris Meledandri said that Benedict’s voice is one that exudes ‘comedic wickedness while embodying vulnerability.’ And even though we won’t get to see him in costume, we can’t wait to see how he does…
