It’s lovely to see a young child with selfless nature. And at four-years-old, Lola Kirkpatrick has just that.

After attending the Portsmouth Guildhall Parade on Remembrance Day with her mother, Rhoda, Lola came across a homeless man, and desperately wanted to help.

‘On the way back through the town centre, going to the shops, my daughter spotted a man sat outside a nail bar and asked why he was sat there on the cold ground,’ Rhoda told the Metro.

When realising he had nowhere else to go, Lola asked her mother if she could give the shivering man some money. Rhoda wasn’t so keen, explaining poor people often spend donations on ‘naughty things’.

But Lola was determined to help. She spotted a nearby bakery and claimed, ‘Well if I buy the food he can’t get the naughty things’.

So, Rhoda took her daughter to the store, where she used all of her pocket money to buy the man a sausage roll - and not just any - 'A warm one to warm his belly, because it’s rainy and cold today.’

As the generous girl approached the homeless man, she became shy, leaving her mother to explain why her daughter was offering a bite to eat.

‘I saw the tears in his eyes, and as he repeatedly said thank you, I knew it was something he wouldn’t forget. I know I won't. I've never been prouder of her.’
