At 109, Alfred 'Alfie' Date has put our knitting skills to shame - making tiny jumpers for little injured penguins.

Australia's oldest man has been whiling away the time creating sweaters for the sick birds on Phillip Island.

Last year the Penguin Foundation requested they were made after a massive oil spill off the coast.

Alfie told Nine MSN News, 'The girls who used to work for me, they'll tell you I'm a sucker. I can't say no.

'It's a good way of getting along in life. You make friends all the time but you don't make a fool of yourself either.'

He knitted his first sweater 80 years ago and has been at it ever since!
