Prince Harry "can't wait" to introduce the Duchess of Sussex and their three-month-old son Archie to South Africa, he told royal fans via Instagram.

Today, the 34-year-old took to the social media platform to tease further details of the family-of-three's debut tour, which is set to kick-start on September 23, and lovingly referred to the nation as his "second home".

"In just a few weeks, our family will be taking its first official tour to Africa, a region of the world that over the past two decades has been a second home to me," he wrote.

"Our team has helped create a meaningful programme that we’re so excited to share with you. On a personal note, I can’t wait to introduce my wife and son to South Africa! We’ll see all of you very soon."

According to the post, Prince Harry will also make solo trips to Malawi, Angola and Botswana during the two-week stint.

Ahead of the trip, the new father asked followers to consider supporting 22 non-profit organisations based in Africa as part of the couple's monthly social awareness campaign.

"As a lead up to the tour, for the month of September, we wish to celebrate the beauty of this wonderful continent as a whole: from local organisations working hard to better the environment, to the young leaders paving the way for a better future for the Commonwealth and beyond," he continued.

"These selected groups are a small representation of the incredible work being done in Africa today from countless people, local communities and organisations."

Prince Harry has long loved Africa, having made frequent visits to the continent after taking a gap year in Lesotho back in 2004.

Two years later, he established Sentebale - a children's charity designed to help support the mental health and wellbeing of vulnerable children affected by HIV.

Harry also famously took Meghan on a third date to Botswana.

"We camped out with each other under the stars," he revealed in the couple's first joint interview with the BBC. "She came and joined me for five days out there, which was absolutely fantastic. So then we were really by ourselves, which was crucial to me to make sure that we had a chance to know each other."

Rumours of a tour first surfaced before Archie was even born, when The Sunday Times reported that "the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are already planning their first overseas trip with their child: an official tour of Africa in the autumn."

As a consequence of the tour, Archie will become one of the youngest royals to represent the monarchy overseas at just six-months-old.

Although taking a royal baby on tour is nothing new, as Prince Charles and Princess Diana took a nine-month-old Prince William on a six-week tour of Australia and New Zealand back in 1983.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge later followed in their regal footsteps, as the couple brought along an eight-month-old Prince George on a three-week tour of Australia and New Zealand in 2014.

Royal fans were last given a glimpse of baby Archie at a charity polo event last month, as the Duchess of Sussex brought him along to support Prince Harry from the sidelines.
