Only the educated are truly free – Sir Bob Geldof

Sir Bob Geldof has spent years in the spotlight attempting to raise money and awareness for struggling people in Africa. With Band Aid 30 and his latest speech at ‘Future Decoded’, he's continuing to put the issue in the limelight.

The singer spoke at the Microsoft conference, leaving his audience impressed as they watched him speak passionately without cards or auto queue.

Discussing the future and technology’s place within it, he said: ‘You must learn the tools of the newer world. You must learn to write that world, to create that world.’

He went on to highlight the importance of better education for those in disadvantaged countries, saying ‘only the educated are truly free’.

‘The world we live in has changed, but we still have a 20th-century mindset.’

Marking the 30th anniversary of the original 1984 concept, a fourth incarnation of Band Aid has been created to raise money for the Ebola crisis.

Ed Sheeran, Bono, Ellie Goulding, Sinead O'Connor and One Direction all feature on the track, which you can buy on iTunes now for 99p.
