There was a sweet brother-sister moment for the Royal Family this weekend as Princess Anne unveiled a special new portrait with a sentimental family connection. The Princess Royal was at the Scottish Parliament building to reveal a brand new photograph of The King which has been hung in Holyrood, Edinburgh.

Photographs of the unveiling ceremony show Princess Anne removing the portrait cover to reveal a framed photo of her brother wearing a kilt, in the gardens of Balmoral. As The Princess Royal unveils the picture, she can be seen laughing and, in a sweet moment, places her hand over The King’s portrait. The placing of the new framed photograph is also significant, as it resides alongside a portrait of their late mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

The Royal Family shared snaps of the unveiling to their official instagram account. In a caption, they explained that the new portrait had been captured by photographer Millie Pilkington ‘in the sunken garden at Balmoral Castle last Autumn.’

The post added that the kilt was in his own King Charles III tartan and that he was holding a ‘handcrafted stick gifted by the Mey Highland Games.’ The new portrait sits alongside Queen Elizabeth II’s, which was also unveiled by Princess Anne back in 2011.

Last week, The Princess Royal made another visit with a family connection, as she celebrated 200 years of the Naval Children’s Charity. Queen Elizabeth II was patron of the charity for more than seven decades, with her daughter, Princess Anne, picking up the mantle after her death.
