Crime drama fans, mark your diaries! A brand new spy thriller – The Asset – is coming to Netflix, and it’s set to get your heart racing. The Danish-language series (don’t worry, there are subtitles!) follows a female agent who goes undercover in a brutal criminal empire, covertly befriending the girlfriend of a mob boss. And if you’re looking for a gritty and twisty watch over Halloween, then this could be your perfect binge – as it’s dropping just before the end of October!

The Asset, originally titled Legenden in Danish, is a spy thriller with a particularly high-stakes premise. It follows agent Tea (Clara Dessau) who goes undercover as a jeweller to infiltrate a grim criminal world. Her mission? To befriend the wife of the organisation’s mastermind – but things don’t prove to be that simple, as the lines of morality quickly begin to blur.

What is The Asset about?

The six-part thriller – titled Legenden in its native Danish – follows intelligence agent Tea (Clara Dessau), an aspiring police cadet. She’s tasked with going undercover as a jeweller to expose the criminal dealings at the heart of a vast underworld – one that has somehow evaded the clutches of the intelligence service for years.

To do this she looks to befriend Ashley, the girlfriend of the criminal enterprise’s boss, and someone key to gathering crucial intelligence. Netflix’s synopsis continues: ‘But as Tea gets closer to Ashley and witnesses the grim reality of her life within Miran’s controlling and criminal cobweb, doubts emerge about where her loyalties truly lie.’

The Asset’s Conceptual Director, Samanou Acheche Sahlstrøm, teased what to expect from the series, saying: ‘I was drawn to tell this story because it explores the complexities of identity and loyalty under extreme pressure. Through Tea’s journey, we see how far someone is willing to go to do what they believe is right – also, when the lines between good and evil become blurred. I have always wanted to work on a crime series that puts its characters, their development and their relations to each other at the very centre of the story. This is precisely what The Asset does.’
