Get ready for glitz, glamour and even more scandal as Apple TV+'s hit high society drama, Palm Royale, is back! Bridesmaids star Kristen Wiig is making a "comeback" - or at least her character, Maxine, is - in what creator Abe Sylvia has described as a "bigger" second series. Set once again in the always-sunny Palm Beach in 1969, it’s the perfect drama to escape with - and it's not long before the departure (see also: release) date.

Series 1 came to a jaw-dropping conclusion when Kristen's character Maxine Dellacorte-Simmons was left reeling from a public breakdown at a lavish gala. In the upcoming second instalment, she’s back and as ruthlessly ambitious as ever, determined once again to scheme her way into the wealthiest clique. Alongside Kristen, the 10-part follow-up will see the return of some familiar faces - The White Lotus’s Leslie Bibb (who plays Dinah Donohue), Ricky Martin (as Robert Diaz) and Laura Dern (Linda Shaw/Penelope Rollins) - plus some exciting guest cameos!

As we eagerly await series 2's arrival on our screens, here’s everything you need to know about Palm Royale, including the cast, plot and series 2 release date.

What is Palm Royale about?

The first 10-part series aired on Apple TV+ last year and took us to Florida in the late ‘60s - think rich interiors, babydoll dresses and floaty kaftans. Kristen Wiig stars as Maxine Dellacorte-Simmons, an outsider who is desperate to claw her way into ultra-luxe Palm Beach high society - literally scaling the wall of the town’s most exclusive country club to do so (did we mention it's also quite funny?). When she’s unceremoniously rejected, she finds other ways to access its exclusive inner goings-on.

But her path is anything but smooth: Maxine strikes up an unexpected alliance with Dinah Donohue (Leslie Bibb) and member of the elite-turned-rebel Linda Shaw (Laura Dern), while facing up to high society power players Robert Diaz (Ricky Martin) and ruthless social gatekeeper Evelyn Rollins (Allison Janney). But by the time a climactic beach party rolls around, Maxine is tired of pretending, and - in an explosive finale - exposes some home truths about the elites that shatter their perfect veneer.

As we mentioned, the series 1 finale left Maxine reeling after a scandalous public breakdown at the Beach Ball gala. According to Apple TV+’s synopsis: “She’ll have to draw on her deep well of cleverness and cunning to prove once and for all that not only does she belong, but she just might have what it takes to rule this town. Along the way she will uncover untold truths and finally understand what this town is truly built on ... secrets, lies and the occasional felony.”

Palm Royale creator Abe Sylvia has revealed that series 2 will be “bigger” than the first, and we're expecting more scandal than ever. He told The Hollywood Reporter. “The audience should expect the unexpected. I think they should expect us to double down on all the things that we did in season one, and go bigger. I wanted to create a situation where the audience gasped at the end, and we have to know what happens next. … We certainly had very strong ideas of what happens next when we wrote the finale of Palm Royale.”

The show is loosely based on the novel Mr. and Mrs. American Pie by Juliet McDaniel and executive produced by its lead Kristen Wiig, who has earned her stripes as an accomplished figure in comedy after years on SNL.
