There’s something about compulsive liars that make brilliant TV and, thanks to Hulu, we're about to get a new series that has one of them at the centre of it. Count My Lies follows a deceiving nanny who lies her way into a wealthy household - and we have a feeling everyone's going to be talking about it (including you!). Starring Big Little Lies’ Shailene Woodley and Lindsay Lohan, and with This Is Us showrunners Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger writing and co-producing it, it’s got all the ingredients of a must-watch drama.

Based on the recently published novel of the same name by Sophie Stava, Lohan will step into the shoes of Violet Lockhart, the gorgeous head of a rich New York household, while Woodley stars as compulsive liar Sloane Caraway, who talks her way into becoming the family's nanny. Author Sophie Stava is set to produce the series, while Shailene Woodley and Lindsay Lohan are also executive producing the series, so it's got quite the team behind it.

While we await the arrival of Count My Lies on our screens, here’s everything you need to know about the series, including the cast, plot and how you can watch it.

What to read next

What is Count My Lies about?

The series follows Sloane Caraway (Shailene Woodley), a serial liar who lands a nannying job with an affluent family headed up by the seemingly perfect Jay and Violet Lockhart (Lindsay Lohan). What Sloane doesn’t know, however, is that the Lockhart family has some explosive and dangerous secrets of its own…

The official synopsis reads: “When compulsive liar Sloane Caraway fibs her way into a nanny position for the gorgeous and charismatic Violet and Jay Lockhart, it seems she’s finally landed her dream job. But little does Sloane know, she’s just entered a household brimming with secrets that are about to explode - with potentially catastrophic consequences for all.”

As we mentioned, the upcoming series is based on Sophie Stava's 2025 novel of the same name and Stava is also producing the show. It’s a different role for Lindsay Lohan who, speaking to Elle about playing Violet, said: “I was talking to the writers and showrunners yesterday and told them, ‘I don’t know if you realise, but this is the first time where I don’t have to have a romantic interest, where I don’t have to kiss someone at the end of the movie.’ Which is so refreshing - to not have to be that girl for once.”

So far, the only two confirmed cast members of Count My Lies are two acting icons: Big Little Lies’ Shailene Woodley and Lindsay Lohan, who has just appeared in the Freaky Friday sequel, Freakier Friday. Surprisingly, this will be Lohan’s first lead role in a TV series! Both Woodley and Lohan are executive producing the series, too - so the stakes are high indeed.

Is Sophie Stava's book any good?

Yes - it was a Good Morning America book club pick when it was published earlier this year, and it's been compared to Gone Girl due to it being a fast, twisty ride with an unreliable narrator, which always makes for a juicy read. Lindsay Lohan told Elle that she found the book dramatic and thrilling - to the extent that she had to ration out her reading of it. “I love the book,” she said. “But when I was reading it, I had to put it down for a day because I was like, ‘I’m stressed now.’ But I liked that. It’s going to be nice to do something different.”

How can I watch Count My Lies?

Hulu hasn’t yet shared a release date for Count My Lies, but as soon as we have a confirmed date we’ll share it here. As is typical of Hulu shows, we’d expect the series to arrive on Disney+ in the UK. More updates as we have them!
