“A grandmother seeking revenge”: Two Graves is the Netflix crime drama you'll want to stay up all night for

Every so often, the premise of a new TV series stops us in our tracks, and the latest one to do so is Netflix's Two Graves. The compelling new crime drama centres around the disappearance of a 16-year-old girl and her friend - as well as the grandmother who's determined to get revenge. And if the new trailer is anything to go by, it's a series you'll want to stay up all night for.

The three-part series is set to be one of the TV highlights of the summer - and showrunner Agustín Martínez has promised that the Spanish-language series will be “full of emotion and unexpected twists”. Will grandmother Isabel (Kiti Mánver) see to it that justice is done? We can certainly expect a rollercoaster ride as we find out.

What is Two Graves about?

The series – created by Agustín Martínez – focuses on the disappearance of two 16-year-old girls called Verónica (Nadia Vilaplana) and Marta (Zoe Arnao). After two painfully slow years, the police tell their families that the investigation is declared closed “due to lack of evidence and suspects”.

But hell hath no fury like a grieving grandmother, Isabel, who decides that she has nothing to lose and decides to carry out her own investigation, to get justice where the authorities have failed her granddaughter and her friend. The synopsis promises a knuckle-biting watch as “Isabel will do whatever it takes to uncover the truth about what happened that night and what begins as the search for a culprit, soon becomes a story of revenge.”

Meanwhile, showrunner Agustín Martínez has said of the series: “Two Graves is a revenge story led by a character rarely seen at the heart of fiction, someone who could only find her place on a platform like Netflix: a grandmother willing to do whatever it takes to seek justice for the loss of her granddaughter. A thriller full of emotion and unexpected twists, brought to life by Kiti Mánver, Álvaro Morte and Hovik Keuchkerian, characters I truly enjoyed writing.”

Who's in the cast of Two Graves?

The cast of Two Graves will be led by Kiti Mánver, who plays the grandmother, Isabel. The actress has previously starred in films including Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown and What Have I Done To Deserve This, both by director Pedro Almodóvar.

Also starring opposite Kiti in a lead role is Álvaro Morte, who plays Rafael. He’s best known for playing The Professor in Money Heist, and he’s also appeared in The Wheel of Time as Logain Ablar.
