The Crow Girl is back! Eve Myles and Katherine Kelly reunite for crime drama’s “emotionally charged” series 2

Ever since The Crow Girl first aired back in January this year, we’ve been in need of a follow-up to the dark thriller! And our prayers have now been answered as the lauded crime drama is back, with Eve Myles and Katherine Kelly reuniting for a series 2. The Paramount+ series is set to be even more emotionally charged than the first, as DCI Jeanette Kilburn (Eve Myles) discovers that a killer may be someone very, very close to her. Intriguing indeed!

If you haven’t caught the first series just yet (and we highly recommend doing so ASAP!) here’s a rundown: a Bristol-based detective is called on to investigate a string of creepy, ritualistic murders when the bodies of young men are found dumped around the city. She partners up with enigmatic psychotherapist Dr. Sophia Craven (Katherine Kelly) and the pair join forces to hunt the killer – who has something of a disturbing modus operandi.

As we wait patiently for The Crow Girl series 2 to arrive on our screens, here’s everything you need to know about the series, including the cast, plot and how to watch it.

What is The Crow Girl about?

The crime drama is based on the Scandinavian bestseller by Erik Axl Sund (the pen name of Swedish writers Jerker Erikson and Håkan Axlander Sundquist). Series 1 - which has six episodes - follows Bristol’s DCI Jeanette Kilburn (Eve Myles) who’s tasked with an investigation unlike any other. It begins with one body - beaten, mummified and full of anaesthetic - and then more and more keep turning up, each in the same eerie condition.

We’re then introduced to psychotherapist Dr Sophia Craven (Katherine Kelly), who Jeanette calls on for help as the bodies keep appearing. These murders pull the pair into murky worlds of abuse and buried trauma, with a circle of wealthy and well-respected locals that start to look ever-more suspicious as the investigation continues.

What will happen in The Crow Girl series 2?

Things are set to pick up the morning after the events of series 1, where - minor spoiler alert! - detective Jeanette Kilburn (Eve Myles) has ended her marriage and has found herself in bed with psychologist Dr. Sophia Craven (Katherine Kelly). In a shocking turn, Jeanette’s bid to find the murderer of young male asylum seekers gets even more complicated when a mummified body discovered in a church wall, and another is found stashed in a freezer.

The official synopsis continues: “As Jeanette digs deeper, Sophia begins to suspect Victoria Burkeman, her mysterious and unstable former patient who has previously been convicted for multiple murders, could be responsible. With the case growing darker, Sophia suspects Victoria is more familiar than she thought, and Jeanette must face the terrifying truth: the killer may be closer than she ever imagined.”

Screenwriter and Executive Producer Milly Thomas said she “couldn’t be more thrilled to jump back into the world of The Crow Girl,” adding that “Jeanette, Sophia and Victoria’s stories are a privilege to tell and, along with the wonders at Buccaneer Media and Paramount+, I’m excited to show everyone what we’ve created.”

Sebastian Cardwell, Paramount+’s Deputy Chief Content Officer teased the series, saying: “We’re delighted to be continuing our partnership with Buccaneer on The Crow Girl. Is The Crow Girl any good?

Yes - the gripping and bleak thriller had us on the edge of our seats! A cosy detective series this is not, as there’s a deeply dark tone to the Bristol-set drama. We described the first series as like Broadchurch, but darker - and critics and viewers alike have raved about it, calling it a “very well-made, pacy drama”.

How can I watch The Crow Girl series 2?

Paramount+ hasn’t shared an official release date for The Crow Girl series 2 yet, but the new series is filming in Bristol this year so we’d expect it to air sometime next year.
