First look at David Tennant in ex-Doctor Who boss Steven Moffat's new TV drama

Doctor Who has a reunion of sorts on the horizon, with former Doctor David Tennant and long-time showrunner Steven Moffat teaming up for a new BBC One drama.

Announced earlier this year, Inside Man is a four-part thriller starring the likes of Tennant, Dracula's Dolly Wells, It's a Sin's Lydia West, and Stanley Tucci – and we now have our first look at the intriguing series.

The upcoming drama follows a prisoner on death row in the US, a vicar in a quiet English town, and a maths teacher trapped in a cellar. Seemingly unconnected, the three characters' lives soon cross paths in the most unexpected way.

Tennant stars as vicar Henry Watling, while Tucci plays US prisoner Jefferson Grieff. Dolly Wells takes on the role of Janice Fife, Lydia West of Beth Davenport, and Lyndsey Marshal is Mary Watling.

Created by Sherlock's Steven Moffat and his wife Sue Vertue for both the Beeb and Netflix, Inside Man has already been billed as "fiendishly clever".

Following confirmation of the series earlier this year, Moffat and Vertue praised their cast. "We're a bit stunned, and very excited, at the acting talent we're managing to assemble for this show," they said. "Can't wait to crawl out of our lockdown bunker and get to work."

Netflix's Chris Sussman added: "We're delighted to team up with the BBC on another brilliant series from the ingenious mind of Steven Moffat.

"It's impossible to say too much about Inside Man without giving away spoilers – so let's just say the scripts are fiendishly clever, the cast is fantastic, and at this point in time nobody but Steven knows how it's going to end."

Inside Man will premiere on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK and on Netflix elsewhere.
