We've already been given a big clue that Call The Midwife's season nine finale is going to be a tear-jerker.

Stephen McGann, who plays Dr Turner in the popular midwifery drama and is married to the show's creator Heidi Thomas, posted a picture of himself after watching a preview of the final series nine episode. And judging from his comments, things are set to get emotional.

"Well. I've just had a sneak preview of Sunday's Call the Midwife, and this is the result. In BITS," he wrote alongside an image of himself with tears in his eyes.

In response to the post, fans worried there might be a shock death in the upcoming finale as we saw in series seven with Nurse Barbara. While we don't know whether that'll be the case, a sneak peek trailer has given us a glimpse at the drama and tension to come.

In the trailer, Nurse Valerie (Jennifer Kirby) can be seen visiting her grandmother Elsie in what looks like prison hospital. When Val put to her grandma that she's clearly not well, Elsie replied saying "She’s acting up". Time will tell if that's the truth or if she's really sick. Meanwhile, Nurse Trixie (Helen George) can be seen comforting Val as she struggles with what's happening.

Elsewhere in the trailer, the treat to Nonnatus House's future seems to be reading a head.

“The work of your order is clearly going to decline in importance," is how one man puts it to Sister Julienne (Jenny Agutter).

We also see Dr Turner saying: “We can’t run the maternity home without the order”, so it's clearly a concern for everyone.
