Emerald Fennell might not be a household name just yet, but she is definitely a star on the rise.

The actor and writer has been announced as a new addition to The Crown’s season three cast, taking on the role of Camilla Shand opposite Josh O’Connor’s Prince Charles.

Speaking about her new role, Emerald said she’s ”absolutely over the moon and completely terrified.”

Who is Emerald Fennell and what has she acted in?

Emerald, 33, was born in London and studied English at Oxford University. She now works as an actor and writer, having most notably starred as Nurse Patsty Mount in seasons three to six of Call The Midwife.

It was announced in 2017 that Emerald wouldn’t be filming for season seven and she won’t reprise her role in season eight.

Emerald has also starred in films including Anna Karenina (2012) and The Danish Girl (2015) She starred in season two of ITV’s Victoria as Ada Lovelace, acting opposite Tom Hughes and Jenna Coleman.

Emerald has written a successful series of children’s fantasy novel called the Shiverton Hall series.

She’s also recently written a Cinderella musical with a modern feel, collaborating with Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Currently Emerald is writing season two of the acclaimed thriller series Killing Eve.

She’s taken over from Phoebe Waller Bridge, who penned season one, to take the reins of the season which will star Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer as agent Eve Polastri and assassin Villanelle.

Speaking about Emerald's work on season two, Jodie told Harper's Bazaar UK:

"It's so funny when you finish a series you think - 'where are we going to go from here?' - and the writer then brings out all this wonderful stuff we just didn't think of. At first I was apprehensive, but then when we started working on scripts and rehearsing, it was clear that we were in safe hands.

"I've been really excited by the script, and where the characters go."

We’re sure to be seeing a lot more of Emerald and her work when The Crown and Killing Eve return to Netflix and BBC One, respectively.
