Migraines are the bane of many people’s lives, but sufferers could soon be offered hope thanks to a new treatment.

A breakthrough drug is currently being tested, with early trials showing it can reduce the number of attacks by 75% in some patients.

Migraines can trigger dizziness, nausea and crippling pain for sufferers, three-quarters of whom are women. The new injection has been described as a ‘holy grail’ for tackling this issue.

Professor Peter Goadsby, of the UK Migraine Trust, said the new medication, which has now completed phase two of testing, is ‘a huge development for migraine sufferers’.

Many people currently rely on painkillers, which aren’t always effective in combating migraines. Professor Goadsby points out that there is currently no specific treatment that has been developed for migraine.

‘All the studies that have been done are positive, and there has been an almost embarrassing lack of side effects.
