First we had Quality Street scrapping a popular chocolate from its selection box, then Terry’s Chocolate Orange shrunk and finally – as if that all wasn’t enough – Toblerone announced it would be decreasing the size of its triangles.

Now, a food retail expert has noticed that bags of Maltesers have decreased in size by 15%. Yep, they went after Maltesers!

Steve Dresser made the revelation after noticing that the 121g bags now weigh 103g.

However, they look exactly the same, meaning the change had gone unnoticed.

Steve also Tweeted a picture of Galaxy Counters, realising the weight of the bag had gone from 126g to 112g.

While we’re in shock about the fact that we’ve been consuming less chocolate than we thought, it is worth noting that chocolate company Mars has adjusted its pricing accordingly.

But still, we’d rather have more chocolate.

Talking about the change in bag sizes, Mars told The Mirror, ‘Like all chocolate manufacturers, we have seen the cost of raw materials rise and, while we try to absorb these pressures as much as possible, sometimes we have to make the difficult decision to reduce the size of some of our products so our consumers can continue to enjoy an affordable treat.

‘Our focus is always on offering consumers our great tasting, high quality chocolate brands at the best value for money.’
