Halloween party on the horizon? Good news, because the supermarkets are brimming with spooky buys, and the Good Housekeeping Institute has been busy finding the tastiest – and most terrifying – treats.
From sweet bites to spooky sips, these Halloween heroes will help you put on the ultimate picky tea throughout October.
Our experts munched their way through a variety of Halloween‑inspired sweet and savoury products from all the major supermarkets and brands. Each product was tasted blind to avoid brand bias, then judged on appearance, aroma, flavour and texture.

Tombstone tapas
Get them round the table with this selection of savoury dishes. With crumpets through to pizza getting the Good Housekeeping seal of approval, the feasting can last all day.
There’s no need to wait until fright night – wake little ones up with these large pumpkin-shaped crumpets, complete with charred smiley faces. Whether you slather them in “bloody” strawberry jam or lashings of butter is up to you!
While not overly spooky, this seriously cheesy pizza stands out thanks to its ghoulish green parsley crust, and it will add hearty substance to your Halloween spread. Topped with a trio of mozzarella, cheddar and Red Leicester on a rich tomato base, it tastes even better than it looks.
Fancy a little game? Aldi’s pigs in blankets are designed as a roulette that rises through the spice ranks – from mellow maple and pork to a touch of hot-honey heat, all the way to the Grim Reaper spicy sausage. You won’t know which you’ll get, so you’ve been warned. The pack also includes blood-red ketchup.
While we wait for the Christmas sandwiches to land, we’ll be tucking into this Halloween special. The pumpkin-shaped bread roll is a fun touch, with a surprisingly fresh chicken salad filling. Well-seasoned, with a not-too-scary hit of chipotle and cheesy coleslaw, it tastes far less gimmicky than it looks.

Aldi Halloween Aaahmazing Bao Buns Sweet & Sour Veg Pumpkins
Aldi’s pumpkin‑inspired bao buns look the part and deliver on flavour. The bright orange, pillowy parcels are filled with a well‑seasoned vegetable stir‑fry and earned a firm thumbs‑up from our experts. A fun buy for the whole family.
Like an upgraded, supersized sausage roll, this well-seasoned pork and beef meatloaf from Morrisons is wrapped like a puff pastry mummy. It’s undeniably cute, with two black beans for eyes and pastry “bandages". A great option for a grazing table or for two to share for dinner.

Trick or treats?
Give little ones a night to remember with these Taste Approved chocolates and sweets. Or stock up for yourself, we won't tell.
Sure, this may look like half an Easter egg, but it’s actually a spooky Halloween scene, depicting a milk chocolate gravestone and “soil”, along with white chocolate skull and bones. Crack it open to unleash “blood” and “fractured bones” (otherwise known as blood orange caramel, honeycomb, marshmallows and puffed rice). It’s very sweet, with huge wow factor, and we're confident little ghouls will go mad for it.
Organic, plant‑based and lower in sugar than similar sweets, these are not your average gummies. Each pack contains peach frogs, apple Venus flytraps, blackcurrant worms and cola snails, and our experts praised their distinct, juicy flavours. Sweet, soft and lightly sour, they’re a perfect bowlful for lucky trick or treaters.
Aldi’s white chocolate mummies are filled with blood red raspberry compote and dark chocolate ganache. The four-pack would make a sweet gift, or addition to the Halloween snack table.
These individual packets of sugar-coated sweet and sour spiders, pumpkins and bats are perfect for trick or treaters. It’s worth noting that not every pack contains each shape, and the flavours don’t differ, but we’re confident kids will love them.
Afternoon tea with a twist
These charming bakes deserve a great cup of tea on the side. Keep a stash on standby for last-minute guests, and for when the sweet craving strikes.
Morrisons has reimagined the classic gingerbread biscuit, adding a thick layer of icing depicting a cute pumpkin design. With a chewy texture and long-lasting spiced note, it tasted more premium than other, more expensive bakes on test.
Get the kettle on, because you’ll want a cup of tea on the go while you devour this adorable edible pumpkin patch. They're almost too pretty to eat, but trust us, the natural almond flavour is too good to miss.
We think Co-op's five-pack of cookies and cream flavoured biscuits are the ultimate after school treat. The orange-hued bakes have a lovely nostalgic flavour and chewy texture, dotted with cookie crumbs and chocolate chips.
These brightly decorated cupcakes feature three spooky buttercream designs – green and purple swirls, orange shag monsters and chocolate cobwebs. Perfect for a kids Halloween party, the simple sponge cake and sugary icing will go down a treat with little taste testers.
Scary snacks
From popcorn to crisps, movie night has never tasted better. With the snacks sorted, the only question left is what film to watch.
Taking inspiration from a certain pair of Wicked witches, Co-op's limited-edition snack combines raspberry pink and apple green popcorn. The ultimate spooky snack for Halloween movie night.
These worm-shaped crisps are dusted with bright-pink pickled-onion seasoning and taste like a slightly lighter take on classic Monster Munch. Super moreish, they’ll look great in a big bowl – if they don’t wriggle off first.
These cheesy bat fangs would make a great addition to the Halloween snack stash. The bright orange corn-based snack tastes similar to Wotsits, and melt in the mouth.
Similar to the brand’s festive Very Merry Munch, this M&S snack tin mixes multi-coloured chocolate malt balls, pretzels, chocolate-covered jelly beans and brownie bites. We prefer the original and would have liked a slightly saltier note, but this will happily tide us over until Christmas. Keep it quiet, or you’ll have a steady stream of trick-or-treaters at the door.
Make-your-own monster treats
These DIY treats will keep little ones busy over the October half term. And better yet, they taste great!
Aldi Halloween Aaahmazing Pistachio Frankenstein Macarons
Aldi’s decorate-your-own macaron kit comes with goggly eyes and black icing to create gruesome (or friendly!) faces. Beyond the fun, interactive element, the macarons impressed with a crisp outer shell, chewy almond flavour, and nutty pistachio cream filling. Cute to make, delicious to eat.
No need to wait until Christmas—this haunted gingerbread house is here for Halloween. The kit includes six easy-to-assemble panels, white and black icing, and orange-and-black sugar sprinkles. It’s super fun for little ones to decorate, and our experts were impressed by the crunchy biscuit and soft, sweet centre.
The whole family will want to get involved in this well-priced creative kit. Each pack contains cookie mix, marshmallows, black icing and green salted caramel. Just add butter and cream to form the dough, add to muffin tins and bake. Then it’s over to you to pipe over melted marshmallow in a cobweb design, and add iced black spiders. It could get quite competitive, in true Bake Off fashion.
Spooky sips
Don't let the kids have all the fun. These novelty serves are the perfect way for adults to toast fright night.
Aldi Ballycastle Pumpkin Spice Flavour Country Cream
Move over Baileys, Aldi’s cream liqueur is half the price and has had a pumpkin spice glow-up for Halloween. Enjoy over ice, or add to coffee, for an autumnal pumpkin spiced latte.
Bottoms up for this witch's brew in a fun light-up bottle. The shimmering gin liqueur – a tropical concoction of mango, pineapple and orange – is ideal for cocktails, such as a Halloween punch.
