Mary Berry is the star of The Great British Bake Off but has been a successful cook and baker for many years, and if Who Do You Think You Are? is anything to go by, that's no accident.

Baking skills may in fact be inherited – like sporting prowess and maths ability.

Mary looked back over her family history and found that her great-great-grandfather, Robert Houghton, was actually a baker.

She discovered that his baking shop was far from a glamorous pastel mixer-filled tent; he would have worked in a very poor area and supplied bread to the local workhouse.

So it seems Mary's got the heritage to give Paul Hollywood a run for his money in the bread department, as well as the cakes!
