We love gin and tonic, and we love dessert, so we’re definitely happy bunnies when someone creates a hybrid of the two.

And while our very own gin and tonic loaf cake will always be one of our favourite home-made bakes, it’s interesting to see a supermarket jumping on the gin-based dessert bandwagon.

Heston Blumenthal’s new Waitrose Summer range features an Earl Grey & Lemon Gin & Tonic Tart.

The buttery pastry dessert is filled with a zesty juniper filling and comes with a dusting of fizzy sugar (for extra sparkle, of course). We are definitely excited to try this!

‘The tart takes inspiration from the fantastic flavours of gin and tonic,’ Heston says. ‘A velvety lemon and lime custard, fizzy sugar and a splash of my Earl Grey & Lemon Gin makes this tart a unique and innovative take on the classic cocktail.’

And it’s not the only dessert he’s been working hard on. He’s also launching the Waitrose Summer Cup Dessert – think Pimm’s in jelly form. The layered dessert comes with layers of apple and cucumber jelly, custard, and strawberry and mint compote.

We’ll take them both please!

Unfortunately the tart isn’t available in time for the Bank Holiday weekend, but will be hitting the shelves from 8 May.

We’ll just take our G&T in a glass for now…
