We LOVE gin, and it's so exciting to see different brands getting more and more creative with their innovations and launches. And Aldi is the latest supermarket to launch something pretty impressive, a gin-wine hybrid spirit.

Sorgin is the latest gin to be added to Aldi's repertoire, after the brand launched over 10 new gin flavours in the last couple of months. Made by French winegrowers and vineyard owners Sabine Jaren and François Lurton, Sorgin is made using Sauvignon Blanc grapes, as well as juniper berries needed in a traditional gin.

Along with grapes and juniper, Sorgin also features botanicals including lemon, violet, broom flower, lime zest and blackcurrant buds. The makers describe the tipple as having "great aromatic intensity" as well as "beautiful and elegant aftertaste."

So how best to drink Aldi's latest spirit?

The makers recommend serving it neat, or with tonic, garnishing with a twist of grapefruit or orange. We can totally get on board with that serve...

But while this is a brand new concept for Aldi, the gin-wine hybrid isn't completely new. In fact last year, Olivier Ward, co-founder of Gin Foundry, predicted that the gin and wine combination would become a popular trend in 2018.

Speaking to Good Housekeeping, he predicted more and more gin-makers would be using grape-based spirits to produce gin, while there will be distillers cutting the gin alcohol with wine rather than water to get it down to bottling strength.

Brands such as Four Pillars and Ferdinand's have already been experimenting with this, with Four Pillars' Bloody Shiraz gin that mixes Shiraz grapes with dry gin and Ferdinand's Saar Gin which is infused with semi-sweet Riesling after distillation.

Even Marks & Spencer jumped on the hype recently, stocking the interesting GinKing, a blend of English sparkling wine with gin and spring water.

We can't wait to see what gin innovations Aldi comes up with next!
