I’m impressed – this hybrid jacket style is so soft you could sleep in it, and starts from £56

Why settle for stiff tailoring?

Tailoring is still reigning supreme among well-dressed women, and this season, there’s no sign of it slowing down. But as October edges closer, there’s a small problem: your favourite chic blazers can't trap heat, due to their lightweight cotton composition. The solution? A wool blazer. It's the cosy answer that could easily be mistaken for loungewear.

A clever mix of comfort and sophistication, the wool blazer pairs soft, insulating wool with a sharp-shouldered, Savile Row-inspired silhouette. Incredibly versatile, it effortlessly bridges the gap between office-ready wear and off-duty ease, making it a seasonal wardrobe essential when traditional tailoring feels too restrictive. Style it over lightweight cardigans and pair with pleated trousers and ballet flats for an effortlessly feminine finish.

Brushed blazers are leading the charge, and one affordable standout comes from River Island. While not made from real wool, it still keeps the chill at bay, with long sleeves and button up detailing for extra warmth. Topshop’s faux wool jacket is another excellent option at a slightly lower price point, offering equal heat retention thanks to its longline cut.

However, it’s sometimes worth splurging, and this is one of those cases. Hush’s pure wool blazer is a classic investment piece, crafted in double-faced wool for a luxe, considered finish. Available in sizes XS to XL, you can also shop in an oversized fit if you prefer a little extra room.

Tweed is another failsafe wool option, with Uniqlo’s tailored jacket from the Uniqlo: C collection leading the way. The wool blend design is a smart, considered choice that won’t break the bank. Unsurprisingly, the chic touch comes courtesy of Clare Waight Keller, formerly of Givenchy and Chloé.

For something a little more refined, Marks & Spencer stocks a herringbone grey blazer from Jaeger, one of Claudia Winkleman’s favourite brands, crafted from wool sourced at the historic Abraham Moon mill.
