I’m an original Topshop girl, and these are the 10 pieces I would buy from the new collection

Topshop is officially back, and the style nostalgia is contagious…

By Lauren Goodwin-Grafton

For a generation of millennials, like me, Topshop wasn’t just a store - it was the shopping destination of the century. I spent many a Saturday afternoon combing the rails for the perfect pair of jeans (Joni, if you’re wondering) and picking the perfect party dress just in time for my night out. Topshop, without a doubt, defined a formative era of style and identity, especially mine, hence the soft spot.

Now, the iconic British brand is back, with a new stand-alone website Topshop.com and a fresh collection. The official comeback on Saturday was sealed in style, with their first runway show in seven years that stirred up a feel-good runway buzz from the elite fashion gang. Model Cara Delevingne, the ultimate 2010s ‘It’ girl fronted the show in a head-to-toe burgundy look, immediately setting the scene for fall.

The return played smartly on Topshop's synonymity with London culture, creativity and design talent while confidently ushering in a new shopping era for Gen Z and millennial loyalists alike. The catwalk showcased see now, buy now pieces, alongside a preview of styles set to launch later into the season.

But what about its wearability? Can anyone 40+ actually wear the new collection?

The good news is, yes! Looking beyond the micro miniskirts and the Kate Moss-inspired plunging silver dress, we’ve selected our ten most wearable buys from the collection for autumn, and they offer ageless appeal.

While trend-led pieces may initially catch the eye, it's the quietly confident staples that deserve a second look - and stand the test of time. Choose sharp tailoring like the bold-shouldered 80s-cut suit, and sophisticated outerwear that will provide key hero moments for the season. The cosy borg patchwork coat looks expensive for £110, while we predict Topshop’s suede jacket will become the new ‘it’ piece for the sustainability-conscious who prefer investing in more premium fabrics.

Otherwise, we’re also championing the chicest of knitwear. Add a neck scarf to a cosy cardigan and suddenly you’ve got autumn's new uniform, relaxed, refined and the right side of cute. Or, try the paired-back V-neck collar jumper in navy or cream. If you’re looking for the perfect trouser to team them with, Topshops denim revival doesn’t come better than the barrel jean in beige.

And for those dressier invitations that say fine dining rather than 'clubbing' the ruffled maxi dress is modest in silhouette but major in style.

Consider Topshop's relaunch your invitation to re-imagine the essentials. Our faithful brand is back and it’s grown with us…
