If you're after a great jacket for the cooler mornings as we head into autumn, but don't want to spend a fortune, there's only one place to go: M&S. The brand is fast becoming our go-to for brilliant, affordable jackets and coats that rival much more expensive designs.
We think its wax coats are brilliant versions of Barbour's (and they might even be better as they come with a cosy, quilted lining, which you don't get with a classic Barbour).
But, it's the new-in cropped cotton trench that has caught our attention. Those who missed out on a similar (sellout) style this time last year will be pleased to know this is just as good. (My mum managed to grab last year's version and I compliment it every time I see her).

Even better, this season's chic cotton trench is a very reasonable £65 and, at time of writing, it's available in sizes 6 to 24. But, we expect it won't be around for long.
It has a regular fit and we love the classic epaulettes and belted cuffs. We'll be wearing ours with M&S' great carrot-leg jeans, a rugby top and trainers on weekends and with tailored trousers and loafers for the office.
It's the perfect cover up for early autumnal days, and you'll be able to layer it under your thicker winter coat when the time comes.
