Labor Day weekend marks the unofficial end to summer, but it also marks one of the best opportunities to score major sales on big-ticket items like mattresses. To find the best Labor Day mattress sales this year, I tapped Textiles Lab Product Analyst Grace Wu at the Good Housekeeping Institute.

Wu is GH's resident mattress expert and has spent hours researching, testing, and analyzing the best and newest mattresses on the market. She has evaluated over 150 mattresses in the past year alone and surveyed more than 10,000 people from our tester panel on the mattresses they own. Using her insights and our rigorous deal-checking process, I rounded up the best discounts on our expert-approved mattresses to help you find the only Labor Day mattress deals worth shopping.

Saatva Labor Day Sale

Best Overall Mattress

Saatva Classic Mattress

Classic Mattress

THE DEAL: This Labor Day, Good Housekeeping readers can take 20% off their Saatva orders (with a minimum $1000 spend) by shopping through our exclusive link.

WHY WE LOVE IT: This is an exclusive deal for our readers, better than Saatva's public sale (where you can save an extra $100 off when you purchase an adjustable base plus or upholstered bed frame with a mattress). Best of all, every mattress order comes with complimentary white glove delivery and mattress removal, plus a generous 365-night trial (returns are subject to a $99 pickup fee).

IN OUR TESTS: "Our Lab has tested hundreds of mattresses, but the Saatva Classic (featured) consistently comes out on top in our evaluations," Wu says. Beyond its quality materials and construction, it's got top-notch edge support and exceptional breathability. And if you're looking for a supportive bed, this is one of the best you'll find. Note that it runs a bit firm, but you've got three firmness levels to choose from.

IN OUR TESTS: Bear's Elite Hybrid Mattress is the best hybrid mattress we've tested so far. "It's designed to promote spinal alignment, providing targeted comfort and support in key areas," Wu explained. The ergonomic design has more than paid off, earning top marks from every consumer tester who's tried it, Wu adds.

WHY WE LOVE IT: This deal beats Helix's public sale of 25% off sitewide.

IN OUR TESTS: Couples with different sleep styles and preferences gave the Helix Dusk Luxe Mattress especially high marks for its comfortable nature, but its happy medium is also great for combination sleepers. "After trying out many Helix mattresses, the Dusk Luxe remains my favorite," Wu says. "It uses a foam that blends memory foam and latex for a responsive yet pressure-relieving feel."

THE DEAL: Until Sept. 9, you can take up to $400 off the the TEMPUR-Adapt collection and $700 off the TEMPUR-ActiveBreeze mattress. Plus, you can take 30% off the TEMPUR-Cloud mattress with code CLOUD30.

WHY WE LOVE IT: This is the brand's biggest sale this year on the Adapt line, including a $400 discount on the ProAdapt mattresses, which is our experts' best overall luxury pick. This is the best price we've seen on the ProAdapt.

IN OUR TESTS: While the ProAdapt mattress conforms and adapts to your body as you sleep, users loved its success at retaining its shape over time (AKA, no permanent indentations were made!). Our testers were impressed by this mattress' comfortable, pressure-relieving memory foam, and one even said it was "love at first sleep."

Sleep Number Labor Day Sale

Best Adjustable Cooling Mattress

Sleep Number i8 Smart Bed

i8 Smart Bed

THE DEAL: Right now, take 25% off the i8 mattress, which is a $1,000 discount. You also can take 20% off the p6 mattress.

WHY WE LOVE IT: The i8 is one of our favorite cooling mattresses and this is one of the best deals we've seen on this year, surpassing the brand's Memorial Day and Fourth of July discounts. And for a limited time, the brand is offering free home delivery on all smart bed purchases (in the past, free delivery was only offered if you also purchased a base), which usually costs $249.

IN OUR TESTS: The i8 is a past Good Housekeeping Bedding Awards winner thanks to its innovative features. The air-filled chambers allow you to adjust the firmness of each side of the bed, which is great for couples with different sleeping preferences. Plus, testers did not overheat on this foam mattress. Wu explains this is because it's made with "foam that's infused with ceramic to draw heat away from your body."

Tuft & Needle Labor Day Sale

Tuft & Needle Mint Hybrid Mattress

Mint Hybrid Mattress
Now 27% Off
Credit: Tuft & Needle

THE DEAL: This Labor Day, take 27% off the T&N Mint Hybrid. Plus, if you purchase the T&N Original or the T&N Original Hybrid at regular price, you can receive a free Original Pillow Set.

WHY WE LOVE IT: This is the brand's biggest sale for the Mint line this year. In regards to the free pillows, our pros rated T&N's Original Pillow Set as the best foam pick in our best pillows roundup. "Usually when brands give away pillows or bedding, it's not great stuff or worth a lot, but these are pillows that are really nice," Wu says.

IN OUR TESTS: The Mint Hybrid did well and has a comfortable, soft, medium-plush feel. While the mattress is a bit more conforming than the T&N Original, it was still quite responsive in our tests. Our pros were also impressed by the micro coils in this mattress. "I don’t normally see micro coils for under $1,500 for a Queen–even when on sale–since they’re a premium feature," Wu shares.

    Brooklyn Bedding Labor Day Sale

Brooklyn Bedding Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe

    Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe
    Now 25% Off
    Credit: Good Housekeeping

THE DEAL: Ahead of Labor Day, you can take 25% off sitewide with the code LABORDAY25.

WHY WE LOVE IT: With this discount, you can save $466 on the Aurora Luxe Mattress, which is our pros' best cooling pick for soft mattresses. Soft mattresses typically use memory foam, which notoriously traps heat. So the Aurora Luxe offers truly a luxurious sleep experience for those who run hot but want a soft bed.

IN OUR TESTS: GH Home Reviews Analyst Amanda Constantine says the Aurora Luxe is one of her favorites among the several cooling mattresses she has tested over the years. "There’s an initial icy feel when I lie down, which fades while I sleep, but I rarely wake up too warm. If I do, adjusting my position brings instant relief,” she says.

WHY WE LOVE IT: Mattress Firm has a variety of our favorite mattress brands to choose from, and we love how they are much faster at shipping your mattress than other retailers.

IN OUR TESTS: The Serta iSeries 2.0 Hybrid uses an extra layer of foam for more pressure relief than a similar style tested (which is getting discontinued), which is our pick for the best cooling hybrid mattress.

    Leesa Labor Day Sale

    Original Hybrid Mattress
    Now 30% Off

THE DEAL: From Aug. 19 to Sept. 8, you can take 30% off select mattresses. This includes discounts on the Sapira Hybrid and the Original Hybrid.

WHY WE LOVE IT: We don't typically see this large of discounts from Leesa outside of holiday discounts, so it's great to shop while it's offered.

IN OUR TESTS: "I find that the Original Hybrid has a balanced, uniform feel, making it more versatile, while the Sapira Hybrid is suited to those who love plush memory foam," Wu says. When we surveyed users, many raved about Leesa mattresses' soft, cushioning foam.

Is Labor Day a good time to buy a new mattress?

Historically, holiday weekends like Labor Day are typically the best time of year to save on mattresses. "While mattress companies offer discounts and sales throughout the year, a holiday weekend is when you'll see the most consistent and competitive offers across brands," Wu says.

This year overall, Labor Day weekend beat out sales we saw during Fourth of July weekend and even some during Memorial Day weekend. Of course, some deals will vary by brand. If you have your heart set on a particular brand or mattress and you don't love the deals you're seeing right now, it may be worth waiting for the next holiday weekend sale (Black Friday is sooner than you think!).
