Carrie Underwood And Husband Mike Fisher’s Love Story Is Adorable

Carrie Underwood's bassist, Mark Childers, first tried to set her up with the National Hockey League star in 2008, according to Bustle. But Carrie wasn’t a fan of blind dates—plus, she was skeptical, since Mike lived so far away in Canada.

So instead, Mark arranged for the two to cross paths at a meet-and-greet backstage at one of Carrie’s concerts.

Her reaction the first time she saw Mike: "Hot, hot, hot," she said in her VH1 Behind The Music special, via Bustle. And the first impression she made on him was just as good: "First time I saw her, she was more beautiful in person than on TV."

The couple began a long-distance relationship shortly after that meet-and-greet, which meant a lot of phone calls between Nashville, Tennessee—where Carrie lived—and Canada, where Mike played hockey for the Ottawa Senators.

"I mean, can I make dating more difficult?" she recalled on VH1's Behind the Music, according to Bustle. "Let's get a hockey guy who lives in another country. Awesome."

But even with all the distance, Carrie never had any problem trusting Mike. She later told Glamour in a 2012 cover interview. "Any guy I've ever dated, there would always be that doubt...but I don't have to worry about Mike."

After dating for a bit, Carrie and Mike finally shared a first kiss in New York City's Times Square during the annual New Year’s Eve celebration, according to People.

"We were in front of people, and he's not a big PDA guy," Carrie told Glamour. "I figured, I'll go in for it because he can't leave me hanging, right? So I made him kiss me in public."

Mike popped the question to Carrie during a quiet afternoon at home, according to Country Living. And with a gorgeous canary diamond ring, no less.

"It's true," he told the Toronto Sun the next day. "We're both obviously excited and very happy."

After two years of dating, they married on July 10, 2010, at the Ritz Carlton Reynolds Plantation in Greensboro, Georgia, reports People.

The couple continued to split their time between Nashville and Ontario until 2011, when the Nashville Predators drafted Mike. People reports that the draft round had Mike anxious, and the move to Nashville came as a relief. After all, it meant being with Carrie full-time—even if sports fans in Canada weren't particularly pleased with the trade.

In February 2015, the couple welcomed their first child: Isiah Michael Fisher. Now 3 years old, he often tours with his mom, according to Country Living.

Carrie and Mike purchased a 400-acre property just outside of Nashville in 2016, reports Country Living. They even invited Oprah to come take a tour of the land!

In 2017, after 17 years playing in the NHL, Mike announced his retirement in an open letter published in the Tennessean. "I’m looking forward to a future that includes a lot more time with my family," he wrote. "Things change when you have kids and you have a family. They’ve supported me without question, and now it’s my turn to return the favor."

But in early 2018, Mike grew antsy in retirement and missed his sport: According to US Weekly, it was Carrie who urged him to go back onto the ice.

"They are so loving and supportive of one another," a source allegedly close to the couple told the magazine. "Usually couples have some sort of issues, but they seem rock solid."

In February 2018, Us Weekly reported that Carrie and Mike were actively working toward giving their son Isaiah a sibling. "Everyone around her knows she wants a big family, and they’re always trying for another baby,” one of Carrie's friends revealed.

“Carrie and Mike have a great life and a very strong marriage—one that their friends envy,” the source continued. “They are completely committed to each other and in it for the long run.”

In late February, rumors hit that Carrie and Mike might split, reports People. But Mike shut that down, fast.

One fan commented on his Instagram post with "praying for you and Carrie.”

But Mike promptly responded: “We’ve never been better. Thanks.”

Carrie didn't reveal the details of her injuries until January, when she shared a note with fans about what happened. She revealed that she not only hurt her wrist, but also severely injured her face—and ended up needing 40 to 50 stitches.

In another letter to her fans in April, she gave an update about her health, saying: “Physically, I’m doing pretty darn good these days!” She also noted, that as a result of her post-tumble recovery, she had the chance to spend more quality time with Mike and their son Isaiah. “I definitely feel more like myself than I have in a while, sometimes I think things happen in order to make us slow down,” Carrie wrote.

In an interview on SiriusXM’s The Highway, Carrie had nothing but glowing things to say about her husband, Mike's support:

“He’s all right [as a nurse]. I mean, I’m really terrible at letting anybody help me with anything, to be honest,” she said, per Us Weekly. “I’m probably not a very good patient because I’m like, ‘I can do it. I’m not completely broken. I can do this.’ I’d say the hardest part was my wrist. Like, I can’t use my appendage, and I’m trying to pick my kid up and make food and do mom stuff.”

According to People, the couple considered moving after Carrie's severe accident outside their home.

“They are completely done with the neighborhood. The decision came after her fall,” a source told People, adding that security issues may be part of the reason, too. “They’ve been having a lot of issues with neighbors letting people in the community to look around and it all escalated after the fall.”

Carrie and Mike hit the red carpet together in June—for the first time since her accident—at the 2018 CMT Music Awards in Nashville, reports People.

Carrie made history that night, too. After winning 17 CMT awards, she now holds the title of most CMT Music Award wins.

After Carrie was asked if she wanted a big family in an interview with Redbook, she replied: "I'm 35, so we may have missed our chance to have a big family. We always talk about adoption and about doing it when our child or children are a little older. In the meantime, we're lucky to be a part of organizations that help kids, because our focus right now in our lives is helping as many kids as possible."

This sparked some drama on Twitter, as many fans rejected the implication that 35 was "too old" to grow a family.

Carrie announced that she and Mike were expecting their second child...in the cutest way.

"Oh baby do we have a bundle of info to share with you!" she captioned a video on Instagram.

In the post, Carrie told fans that her new alum would drop in September, and the Cry Pretty 360 tour would begin in May.

"But you might be wondering, Carrie, why is your tour starting in May?' Well..." Then the camera panned to show four balloons that spelled "BABY."

Carrie said the news was a "dream come true" and she and Mike were "so excited to add another fish to our pond."

“Mike is being the most doting, amazing husband while Carrie is pregnant,” a source told Us Weekly. “Mike tries to take Carrie out once or twice a week for date night in Nashville.”

The source added. “[He is] reading a bunch of parenting books, rubbing Carrie’s feet and is making sure she is happy and comfortable at all times."
