On Rock the Block this week, the teams focused on the backyards and decks of their Utah competition homes. With an extra $50,000 added to their budgets, everyone went all out. To judges and Unsellable Houses stars Lyndsay Lamb and Leslie Davis, there was one clear winner: Jonathan and Jordan Knight. With such variety in the teams' designs, fans are having strong reactions to the outcome.
Lamb and Davis, champions of Rock the Block season five, revealed the one feature that made Team Knight’s backyard stand out was the greenhouse outfitted with plants, a long dining table, and string lights. “We got in there, and we were just blown away,” Davis said during the episode. “It has power, water, entertaining, usability in multiple different ways—such a creative thing to incorporate.”
The Knights also added a goat barn, raised garden beds, and a fire pit to their backyard space. On the deck, they set up another dining area and extra seating for admiring mountain views. They also installed a glass railing and automated screens for comfort and a modern touch.
While the greenhouse put the Knights over the top, a few features from the other teams’ projects stood out. Namely, the Kalamas installed a pickleball court and outdoor shower. The Deboers enclosed the entire backyard in wood fencing and made it family-friendly with a massive playset and an in-ground trampoline. Alison Victoria and Michel Boyd Smith brought in a container-style tiny home and a cedar hot tub.
On Instagram, fans didn't hold back their thoughts:
- “The greenhouse was awesome. I would have done chickens instead of goats..lol Alison and Michel's container was a bit much. The house is so large already. Did they need a guest house?”
- “I found all the yards a little odd. No outdoor kitchens? No pools? Who wants a bunch of dirt in their yard blowing around? At least one house had a fence. I’d think all buyers would want that!”
- “Perfect judges for a yard with goats!! lol!! They are always adorable. Go team Knight!!”
- “I vote for the Pickleball court fabulous and I like the hot tub on the deck step outside. Go right into the hot tub after you had a long day on the Pickleball court.”
- “Where is Ashton Kutcher? I feel like Alison and Michel are punking us with the indoor pickleball court and the outdoor room container.”
- “So happy to see @thelyndsaylamb and @thelesliedavis hop out of the towne car as judges! You ladies bring so much joy to the show. You chose wisely too, 😘😘 and the best yard 🏆 won!”
- “There is no way Jonathan & Jordan’s backyard added the most value…..a goat barn. The only added value was the greenhouse. Others had more than one added value. Just because a designer is a good designer doesn’t make them a good judge. My friends and I will not be watching in the future. There are other shows where we get to enjoy designer’s creativity, the value added, the functionality, and it’s all cohesive.”
- “Inspired is word that comes to mind with tonight’s backyard competition!!!”
Next week, the teams wrap up the final spaces of their homes in the season six finale. It's anyone's game at this rate!
