Guess what Law & Order: SVU fans? A fan favorite is officially back on the squad — and a key member of the team has some thoughts about it.
Fans of the NBC drama remember Kelli Giddish officially exited SVU as Detective Amanda Rollins in season 24, back in December 2022. While the actress has made appearances over the years on both SVU and Law & Order: Organized Crime, viewers begged for a chance to see Kelli back on the air on a more consistent basis.
Well, it looks like fans' prayers were answered, as Deadline announced on May 15 Kelli's official return to Law & Order: SVU. The outlet wrote she'll be coming back as a series regular, securing her spot in the crew once again. And if that wasn't enough, the show posted a sweet Instagram video of Kelli and Mariska Hargitay (who plays Captain Olivia Benson) embracing each other in excitement over the news.
"Rollins returns! ❤️," the show's social team wrote. "Kelli Giddish will be a series regular for #SVU Season 27."
When folks caught on to the fact Kelli was reuniting with Mariska and the rest of the SVU cast for season 27, they immediately voiced their elation for it.
"As she should. Welcome home Rollins," one person wrote in the comments. "Back where she belongs 🔥🙌👏," another agreed. "I am so happy Amanda Rollins is back! The show was never the same when she was gone. We love you @kelligiddish ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️," a different follower added.
As fans may remember, Rollins left the SVU after a series of major events occurred for her. At the time, she had married ADA Sonny Carisi (Peter Scanavino) and decided she wanted to take on a teaching gig at Fordham University. She also later gave birth to a son, which folks got to witness later on in the series.
So, how does Mariska feel about Kelli making a comeback on Law & Order: SVU for season 27? As she told Deadline during an appearance at Cannes for her new documentary My Mom Jayne, she's thrilled about the idea of Benson and Rollins working together again.
"[Kelli] is a formidable actress and an incredibly creative partner and has been such a joy and huge part of the fabric of SVU," she told the outlet. "I love her, and I love acting with her and co-creating with her, and it feels like home with her. So, I am ecstatic about her return."
We seriously can't wait for this!
