This year has seen a lot of highs and lows in the crafting world, from JOANN closing down to Michaels acquiring JOANN's assets. It's been a rollercoaster, to say the least. Now, Michaels is back in the spotlight for good reason. The brand has just launched new in-store experiences, expanding offerings in two key areas: fabric, yarn, and sewing and party supplies.
Starting now, customers can shop at The Knit and Sew Shop and the Party Shop within Michaels' stores nationwide.
The Knit & Sew Shop
Combining popular JOANN labels, such as Big Twist, and expanded Michaels' offerings from Brother, Singer, and Gütermann, The Knit and Sew Shop brings the two craft powerhouses together. The team-up will provide more fabric, yarn, and sewing options than ever before. In fact, Michaels say it has increased store space for these areas by 25%. The increase was made to "meet strong customer demand," according to a recent press release.
Besides increased stock, The Knit and Sew Shop will also offer new services, including fabric cutting tables, that'll be available in more than 650 stores by mid-October.
The Party Shop
Just in time for Halloween, Michaels is also expanding its party products, adding 700 new items to their in-store catalogue, including DIY balloon arch kits, tableware, and themed paper goods.
Similar to The Knit and Sew Shop, the Party Shop will offer in-store services, such as their Balloon Bar, where customers can build custom balloon bundles, reserve balloon pick-up, or schedule a balloon delivery up to four days ahead.

The launch of these two in-store experiences makes Michaels the largest specialty fabric and party retailer in North America, according to the brand's press release. This would put them ahead of Party City, Hobby Lobby, Blick Art Materials, and more. Big news for big-time crafters!
On a greater note, the increase in product in customer-favorite areas and brands shows that the company is listening to consumer feedback. They want to meet and even exceed customer demands, which is a huge win, not only for Michaels but for Michaels' shoppers, too!
