I'll do pretty much anything to improve my sleep, and that starts with finding the right sheets. It's admittedly taken me a few years of trial and error to figure out what I like, and I've slept on everything from super soft, affordable microfiber sheets to the most breathable percale sheets, hotel sheets and more.

During that time, I also had the opportunity to test Boll & Branch's best-selling Signature Hemmed Sheet Set. Though I was initially dubious of the sheet's sateen construction, which is typically associated with being silky and smooth (and, frankly, too silky for my taste), Boll & Branch sheets took me by surprise. In fact, these sheets quickly became the ones that I reached for during my weekly sheet change. Fast forward two years: I'm still sleeping on my Boll & Branch sheets and have even invested in more.

Not only are Boll & Branch's sheets some of the softest and most luxurious that I've ever slept on, but they've been put to the test by the fiber scientists and experts at the Good Housekeeping Institute Textiles Lab, who have tested over 350 sheet sets to find the best ones. Our pros have conducted thousands of nights of at-home sleep testing with real users, cut nearly 3,000 fabric swatches for industry-standard durability tests and taken over 4,000 shrinkage measurements.

Boll & Branch’s Signature Hemmed Sheet Set impressed our experts — it earned a past Good Housekeeping Bedding Award and it's GH Institute’s best overall luxury sheets. Here's everything you need to know to decide whether the sheets are a good fit for you.

The Boll & Branch Signature Hemmed Sheet Set for a Queen costs around $279, which is on the pricier side for sheets. For comparison’s sake, a sateen sheet set from Brooklinen in Queen is $189.

The set includes one flat sheet, a fitted sheet (17-inch depth) and two pillowcases. If you want a set that includes a duvet cover (and two extra pillowcases), I recommend purchasing the Signature Starter Bundle. While it's even pricier at $687, there's just something so luxurious and picture-perfect about matching bedding. For a better deal, you can consider waiting for a holiday sale or a promotion. It's not uncommon for Boll & Branch to occasionally offer up to 20% off.

Colors

One of the reasons I love Boll & Branch so much is that their sheets are available in a wide range of beautiful neutral shades: 18 solids and 8 patterns. While you can't go wrong with white, my absolute favorite color the brand offers is Juniper. It's a lovely green that reminds me of being outdoors. I'm also partial to Oak, which I think works exceptionally well with my room's aesthetic and I frequently mix it with Juniper. Plus, the embroidered options offer a luxe, hotel-like look to your bedroom, but do cost more.

Keep in mind that Boll & Branch's sheets aren't matte. Instead, the sheets feature a subtle sheen that, in my opinion, adds a hint of elegance. I can, however, see why some would prefer a look without any shine whatsoever.

Materials

Boll & Branch's Signature Hemmed Sheet Set is made of long-staple, certified-organic cotton sateen. As someone who had been sleeping on percale for years, and was obsessed with it for its light, crisp and breathable texture, I wasn't sure how I would like the sateen construction of these sheets. After all, I'm a hot sleeper and I hate anything that feels remotely silky. But the gentle, almost buttery feel of Boll & Branch’s sheets immediately grew on me and became a favorite in my home.

The sateen construction offers a hotel-like feel that continues to impress me wash after wash. “I like how the brand’s sateen feels soft and smooth but not overly silky," says Grace Wu, GH Institute textiles product review analyst. "This is likely because Boll & Branch uses a 3:1 sateen weave rather than 4:1, so there are more interlacings for breathability and the floats are shorter, so it’s not too smooth. They feel almost percale-like and airier than your typical cotton sateen sheets, which is nice!” she says.

Testers described the sheets as soft, crisp and elegant, with one stating, “These sheets are some of the most luxurious I’ve ever slept on.” Others have likened them to five-star hotel sheets, noting how breathable yet substantial the fabric feels.

Also noteworthy: Boll & Branch works directly with farms and factories to produce traceable organic bed sheets that are GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) and OEKO-TEX certified. The GOTS certification is especially important because it means the entire manufacturing process is organic, not just the way the cotton is grown, while the OEKO-TEX certification means it's been tested to ensure there are no unsafe levels in the fabric. A past Good Housekeeping Sustainable Innovation Awards winner, the brand follows sustainable standards and strict guidelines that are carried out through their entire product process, so you can feel good about paying a bit more for your bed sheets.

Performance & care

Boll & Branch sheets are high quality, and they have remained in good condition over months of use. They do wrinkle on occasion, like when my washing machine is too full or I forget to take the sheets out immediately. However, I appreciate that I can wash them on a cold, delicate cycle, and more importantly, that I can tumble dry them on medium. This makes life easier.

According to Wu, “Boll & Branch’s Signature Hemmed Sheet Set stands out for its soft, crowd-pleasing texture above all else.” When it comes to their performance in Lab tests, she pointed out that these sheets had fewer noticeable wrinkles than others, and the fabric proved durable, though it earned lower scores for fabric strength. That means your sheets may not last you as long as you'd like.

Bottom line: Are Boll & Branch sheets worth it?

I’ve slept on a lot of sheet sets, and if you ask me, Boll & Branch’s sateen sheets are worth the investment. While they’re pricy, especially if you're shopping for a sheet set on addition to a duvet cover, I love their look, feel and excellent craftsmanship. They're sold in a range of beautiful colors that should complement most bedrooms, and they feel divine. While cotton percale will always be my favorite fabric, these sateen sheets rank among the best sheets I've ever tried.

Another important factor to note is that the brand truly stands by its products, and I've always found the company's customer service to be exceptionally receptive to any issues I've encountered. This, to me, makes Boll & Branch sheets worth every penny.

Other Boll & Branch products we’ve tried

  • Boll & Branch Signature Short Sleeve & Pants Pajama Set: These pajamas are made from the same soft material as Boll & Branch's Signature Sheets. A 2024 Sustainable Innovation Award winner, the set won over testers for its style and comfort. "It’s quiet luxury at its finest," said one tester, who described the PJ's as "soft yet breathable."
  • Boll & Branch Down Duvet Insert: This is the duvet insert I use when New York temperatures drop below freezing. It's available in lightweight, midweight and ultraweight. The ultraweight is one of the fluffiest yet lightest duvets I've ever used, and the down fill keeps me toasty (if not too toasty) all night long. Other testers have given it perfect scores for comfort and overall satisfaction.
  • Boll & Branch Waffle Robe: One of our best bathrobes for women, this waffle-textured robe is made from 100% organic cotton and received praise from testers for its stylish appearance and deep pockets.
  • Boll & Branch Down Alternative Pillow: Our GH experts say this is a top choice if you're seeking a sustainable down alternative pillow that doesn't sacrifice quality. It's available in three firmness levels and it has earned good scores from real users, looks great on the bed and washes well.
  • Boll & Branch Pillow Insert: Another GH expert-approved pillow, this down pillow with an organic cotton cover is a great option for anyone who loves sleeping on fluffy down. Our pros appreciate that the fill is evenly dispersed and contained within an organic cotton cover.
  • Boll & Branch Waffle Terry Bath Towel: Testers unanimously loved using this towel, which features a traditional terry fabric on one side and a waffle-weave fabric on the other. In Lab tests, it proved to be fairly absorbent with an average drying speed.
  • Boll & Branch Waffle Bed Blanket: This top-tested blanket stands out for its breathable, waffle weave that makes it perfect as a throw on the couch or an extra layer on the bed. Reviewers loved its soft, textured surface, though they noted that it's not the thickest blanket. It is, however, big enough to cover multiple people, so you can comfortably snuggle on the couch.
  • Cozy Bouclé Throw Blanket: This is the throw I use on my bed at home, and I love how the bouclé texture pops against my smooth sateen sheets. The creamy white color is perfect and the blanket's material is super soft to the touch. The only downside: It's dry clean only.
