This all-star spice blend is easy to DIY at home! Our recipe combines cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, allspice, and cloves with a pinch of black pepper for an extra hit of heat that you won’t find in the store-bought stuff.

Test Kitchen Tips:

• Grate your own nutmeg for a major flavor boost! Whole nutmeg can usually be found in the spice aisle next to the pre-ground options.

• Our secret ingredient, black pepper, makes this mix a great addition to savory foods as well as sweet (looking at you, spiced nuts!). Sprinkle it on top of butternut squash, carrot soup or even popcorn.

• Add a little extra complexity with a pinch of cardamom— a little goes a long way!

Ingredients

  • 3 Tbsp.

    ground cinnamon

  • 2 tsp.

    ground ginger

  • 1 1/2 tsp.

    ground nutmeg

  • 1 tsp.

    ground allspice

  • 1 tsp.

    ground cloves

  • 1/4 tsp.

    freshly ground black pepper

Directions

    1. Step 1In a small bowl, mix together cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, allspice, cloves, and black pepper until combined.

MAKES About 4 1/2 Tbsp spice mixture
