Easter cupcakes are the perfect sweet treat to round out any savory holiday meal, plus, they also act as an ideal canvas for plenty of springtime decorations, like dainty flowers or these super cute sheep cupcakes. Why wait to make some?

While there are tons of Easter sheep cupcake recipes out there, we made our easy Easter treats even more adorable by turning them into little lambs complete with a precious face and buttercream fur. And while plenty of sheep cupcake recipes use mini marshmallows to create the sheep's fluffy coat, we opted for a white buttercream piped design using a star tip to add fuzzy texture. To make the ears, we added a tiny line of buttercream on either side of the cupcake with a leaf tip. Finally, once dry, we used a tiny pale pink sprinkle to add color inside the ear. Then, rather than rolling out dark fondant or chewy chocolate candies for the lamb's face, we flooded the top of the cupcake with royal icing and drew on the lamb's face with our favorite edible marker.

Get your kids involved with these easy DIY Easter cupcakes by giving them free rein to draw the faces or even pipe the fur! And while we used vanilla cupcakes, you could easily swap in chocolate, red velvet, and carrot cake cupcakes. No matter what flavor, these lamb cupcakes are sure to be the cutest desserts to end your Easter egg and ham-filled day.

Ingredients

  • 1

    batch buttercream frosting

  • 1

    batch royal icing

  • 12

    vanilla cupcakes

  • Pink sprinkles and nonpareils

  • Star and leaf piping tips

  • Black edible marker

Directions

    1. Step 1Place coupler in piping bag and fill with buttercream. Fit with star tip. Thin royal icing out so it is slightly runny, then transfer to piping bag or resealable bag.
    2. Step 2Using buttercream, pipe border around cupcakes, leaving a circle about the size of a quarter in the middle.
    3. Step 3Snip end off of bag with royal icing and fill center holes of each cupcake, using a toothpick to get into all spaces and cover the cupcake completely.
    4. Step 4Swap out tip on piping bag to a leaf tip; pipe ears on each cupcake and place a sprinkle on each.
    5. Step 5Once royal icing is set, use small dab of it to stick on nonpareil for nose. Use marker to draw on eyes.
