Fruit compote is a French dessert made by cooking fruit in a sugar syrup. Our recipe uses pears and the juice of an orange. We've garnished the completed compote with sliced almonds for a simple yet stunning dessert.

Ingredients
- 1 medium orange
- 2 small pears
- 1/4 tsp. almond extract
- 2 tsp. sugar
- 12 oz. strawberries
- 1/2 oz. sliced blanched almonds
Directions
- Step 1Squeeze the juice from your orange into a 3-quart saucepan. Add the pears, extract, and sugar. Cook on medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, for 5 minutes, or until the pears begin to soften.
- Step 2Remove the compote from the heat and stir in the strawberries. Transfer to a medium bowl and refrigerate at least 1 1/2 hours, or until chilled. Divide among 4 glasses or serving bowls and top with almonds.
